In today’s episode, I start off showing how the unhinged members of legacy media are stooping to mischaracterizing freedom of speech for Twitter. They are suggesting a difference of opinion or having a political debate from two different perspective is akin to yelling “fire!” in a crowded theater. The infantile thinking behind this should not need explanation, but unfortunately, for those on the Left, it does. Equating a substantive debate to inciting a panic-fueled riot is just silly. What they are really admitting is presenting them with a view that conflicts with theirs is what is panic-inducing. Sorry, being emotionally unhinged and incapable of arguing the merits of your point of view is not a reason to censor or ban the other person.
When we allow that litmus test to drive the censorship algorithms, we end up banning accounts like those who said the vaccines did not stop infections or transmission. Their tweets were labeled as “misleading” or “fact-checked false” when some said it is, at best, a therapeutic with a limited window of efficacy. Woke, virtue-signaling, mask dependent Leftists flinched from these messages like a vampire shown a cross. Rather than debate the substance, it’s just easier to call it harmful disinformation and ban those users to keep them from saying anything ever again.
This editorializing and controlling of the platform based on content is what puts social media into the column of acting like a publisher. Now, while the folks behind the scenes were taking direction from the Left and the legacy media, Democrats were good keeping Twitter where it was. Now, as we discussed yesterday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki put out the threat that Congress has the power to revisit Section 230 and put regulatory controls in place to allow for government oversight. Well, since Jen Psaki wanted to bring Congress into the conversation, it spurred Senator Josh Hawley to pen a letter to Elon Musk, asking for a full audit to be published for all who want to see it. He specifically suggests investigating who was responsible for suppressing the NY Post and the Hunter Biden laptop story, how many users have been banned and why along with how many were shadow-banned and why, do any of the bans evince a political bias and has and code or records been deleted since the takeover?
It’s definitely a great start to bringing Twitter back to being the digital town square it was originally intended to be. This brings me to where I do have a few suggestions for how Twitter can be improved, which includes getting rid of all bots and finding a way to verify real users through a secure process. There needs to be less banning, less interference and an appreciation for conflicting ideas.
Finally, I end with an overview of a great article written by Stacey Lennox of PJ Media entitled, “The Real Reason Elon Musk Offends the Left.” It really does come down to a philosophical view of society. Musk has a pro-human being, pro-freedom, pro-individual view of humanity; whereas, the elites on the Left only want that for themselves. The rest of us should be left to grovel in a pro-scarcity, anti-human, punishing existence where we do what we are told and let our “betters” enjoy the fruits of our labor.
