The Alan Sanders Show

Sep 1, 2022

Today I focus mostly on the concept of cognitive dissonance as it relates to our current political climate. Later tonight, President Joe Biden is going to address the nation in what will undoubtedly be his darkest and most divisive speech to-date. He did not walk back calling half of the electorate semi-fascists. The White House has been doubling-down on that insult and tonight is expected to be the next logical escalation for his attack on the GOP.

We look at how Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre used her position, not to soften the rhetoric of Biden, but to stoke it even further. She said the president believes that people who voted for Donald Trump are “a threat to our democracy, to our freedom, to our rights.” Ben Shapiro stated in his tweeted response, “Joe Biden’s press secretary talks about 74 million Americans who voted for Donald Trump the way George W. Bush talked about Al Qaeda.” Let that sink in for just a moment.

In our current climate, where people are no longer interested in logic or reason, but are invested in an emotional outcome, the biggest most ridiculous lie will be accepted as Gospel. It’s how cognitive dissonance works. Cognitive dissonance is when a person creates a belief system where two completely contradictory pieces of information can both be considered true.

To illustrate that point, and to pull it away from Biden/Trump, I turn to Victor Davis Hanson who illustrates the absurdity of identity politics by using the Jussie Smollet story. The narrative Jussie wove was so laughably impossible to believe, he should have been relegated to the dust heap of history. Instead, because so many suffer from a psychological derangement, they desperately wanted to believe it was true. As Hanson lays out the narrative, the audience he is addressing cannot help by laugh at the lunacy. Yet, for a time, politicians, members of the media, Big Tech and more were all-in on the side of Jussie Smollet.

And that’s what Joe Biden is hoping for tonight. He is hoping there is enough derangement in the country that he can tell us the GOP wants to take away our democracy, our freedoms and our rights and democrats will be inspired to get to the polls and stop it from happening. It’s a lie. It’s as big a lie as the one concocted by Jussie Smollet, but if people are still psychologically impaired, they will be just as apt to go all-in once more.
